If you say that his stories are postmodern or that they emerge from under the large coat of Daniil Harms – you’re right. If you declare minimalism, compactness, simplicity, style of fairy tales and subtle humor as main points of his poetics – you’ll be also right.
But it is interesting that in Prlja’s literature – as in any other good literature – meanings are not exhausted just like that. As David Albahari said: “What the story knows, will never find out.”

Publisher: Templum
26 p.
ilustr., 30 cm
ISBN 9989-902-94-1
Collections of fake news, short stories, imaginary biographies of celebrities in a satirical and humorous manner. The play between fact and fiction is a dominant theme. The impact of the satirical magazine “Onion” is obvious, but these newspapers go further than satirizing local and global news, political events and social issues.
Deconstruction of the “truth” becomes the main theme of these newspapers that tend to prove that the truth in the modern world is a term and concept easily manipulated, and commercial and consumeristic way of thinking and living are the main areas of criticism. Social engagement is important issue in these publications and is an extension of the satire and humor. It’s an endeavor to bring artistic discourse in journalistic genre.

Books from the AstroGnome edition are not scientific documents, their idea is not to be exact, nor they contain physical formulas. Rather, the idea is to play between fact and fiction to create something that is called “faction” or, as the author prefers, educational prose.
The topic of the first three books is the macroworld and the astronomy, while the fourth book is dealing with the microworld.
The author semantizes and breaks all the meanings, all the phrases and all the elements of narration, then resemanticizes them. In that process, he constantly mixes disparate concepts. Mostly in the field of popular culture and modern communications, but in that playfulness, there are many intellectualisms, in his own way style.

The author uses mechanisms of “banalization” and playfulness concerning the phrases and the concepts, which is a legacy of the avant-garde, particularly Russian avant-garde and the Dadaists. The author uses that language mask on one hand, in order to make universal truths available and understandable for everyone. On the other hand, it is an expression of his anger, his intellectual, and sometimes political, engagement, and a commitment against confined world and he successfully does that through his unordinary stories.
Yet, apart from being a protest, it is a call to play – for us to realize that behind the most banal notions we can find new meanings and phrases.

In this fiction you’ll will find a vivisection of boiling everyday electronic life, which pushes people in the virtual world, omitting the trip in their own world, from which they can come up with a handful of creative ideas.
The book felt like a “drop” from the universal mind, which floats freely and takes all forms and shapes and wittily looks through different prisms: physical, intellectual, psychological, social, physical and metaphysical, relativistic etc., but however, the essence remains the same – unchanged and eternal quest for the truth about life and interpersonal relations.
On one hand it reflects the free fall of the civilization in this moment, that rushes irretrievable into immeasurably deep abyss of existential vacuum, to which Viktor Frankl was referring to. And from there comes the emptiness of our lives – par excellence!
But on the other hand, these golden letters written from the dust of realism reminds us of the words of Rabindranath Tagore: “Fate didn’t rob us completely!”

Turbo-Folk, nationalism, politics, chauvinism, soap operas, kitsch, bullying, exaggerated materialism … this is only part of the terms that through the language of literature are processed in this book in a more or less serious manner.
In transitional societies and those societies that have yet to build social norms where where a transition from one system to another system of values happens the biggest victims are children. Until real values are built, children are forced to swallow everything that the media and the environment serves them, and that is often negative, limited, xenophobic and primitive view of the world and reality.
This book is an attempt to point to these phenomena in society and has no illusions that it can change them, but people can change, and the children will follow the example.

“Letters, in a word!” is a fruit of cooperation between Kapka and Nina Prlja and an attempt to create an original and unusual game of words and their visualization. Each term can have different meanings depending on how one sees its structure, internal, external, depending on the age of the “reader”, his knowledge, origin and, ultimately, openness to accepting new ideas and concepts. This book is an experiment and a call for further experimentation by the readers, who themselves can discover new and hidden meanings of words.
